Information Integration Theory or Functional Theory of Cognition (Anderson, 1981, 1982, 1991a, 1996) was developed by Norman H. Anderson in the 1960s to:

Understand and explain how individuals process information, perceptions and experiences in their daily lives, in order to form judgments or make decisions.

In other words, to update the psycho-cognitive "laws" of the processing and integration of multiple stimuli and to account, in a quantitative manner, for the relationship between the stimuli that an individual receives/perceives and his response to these same stimuli.
